Ghostpoet's Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam is one of those rare debut albums that manages to simultaneously sound startlingly accomplished and intensely unique. He has been heralded as the savior of any number of genres ,from British hip hop to trip hop and pop, and the wave of critical acclaim earned him a Mercury Prize nomination and a trip down the red carpet last week that must have seemed beyond surreal to the 28 year-old Londoner. Putting aside the fantastic quality of the originals, the most exciting element here for EDM fans is how well Ghostpoet's tracks are suited to remixing. His languid London drawl and blissed out downtempo electronics are perfect fodder for new wave bass producers the world over, as xxxy and Lando Kal show here with their versions of Liiines.

FACT Magazine darling xxxy is first up, replacing the original's effervescent guitar driven melodies with his trademark snare-led UK funk, morphing the track from scrappy-yet-heartfelt rock to a sleek and contemplative mid-tempo club track. Lazer Sword's Lando Kal goes down a different route, chopping the vocals and feeding them piece by piece back into a disco-inflected funky house number. Whereas this plush house rework hits an entirely different vibe, the sentiment ending up as warped as the vocals, xxxy's introspective mix would not be out of place on the album the original was plucked from. Have a listen to Survive It, the first single off Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, and see if you agree (video below).
