Thanks to support by Skrillex and his prolific OWSLA label, French quartet Birdy Nam Nam have exploded on the US scene so quickly they haven't even had time to create an English version of their website yet. They certainly speak the language of bass and "future bass" music, though, making their new EP, Jaded Future, prime territory for guys like French Fries, Foreign Beggars, and the Skrill himself to expand the project's sound palette with some stellar remixes.

Jaded Future is made up of three tracks: the title track, Goin' In, and Cadillac Dreams, each coming with an original mix and an assortment of reworks. My favorite from the Jaded Future crop was the original mix, a straight-up trap banger that is among some of the better-produced tracks of the nascent genre thus far. The Skrillex remixes of Goin' In are by far the most "buzzed about" tracks of the moment, receiving massive amounts of Internet chatter following the premiere of the "Goin' Hard" version by Skrillex at Spring Awakening in Chicago. The "Goin' Hard" take somehow manages to seamlessly combine trap, drum'n'bass, and dubstep--not easy since they all live in different BPM ranges--into one amalgamation that could be dubbed the "State of the Art of US Bass Music." The "Goin' Down" version leans more toward the trap side of things, with a stuttered synth sitting on top of southern crunk-inspired bass in the drop. Culprate's reimagination of Cadillac Dreams is my favorite take of the final batch of tracks, combining hip hop and breakbeat sounds in a fascinating display of engineering prowess. Five out of five on this EP--a must-listen, to be sure. Pick the whole EP up here.
