Spotify Spotlight 23: Monstercat

For this week's edition of Spotify Spotlight we take a look at Vancouver-based label Monstercat, one of the most successful and unique independent electronic music labels to date.

Founded in 2011, Monstercat has transformed into a powerhouse label in the electronic music community releasing three new tracks every week and compiling them together every 10 weeks or so for a compilation album. They've created a culture of releasing high quality music every week from many different genres, including singles from the likes of Krewella and Pegboard Nerds, ultimately building a sizable fan base that continues to show them a huge amount of support. In this week's playlist we cover a number of our favorite releases that we feel paint an accurate picture of where the label stands in the electronic music spectrum including tracks from Droptek, SCNDL, Falcon Funk, and many more.

Spotify Spotlight 20: Dirtybird

The city of San Francisco is known for many things--Rice-A-Roni, cable cars, Alcatraz, and most importantly to us, Dirtybird.

Founded by producer/DJ Barclay Crenshaw (aka Claude VonStroke) along with brothers Justin and Christian Martin and Worthy in 2005, the label has been host to many influential and groundbreaking electronic releases from producers including Justin Martin, Worthy, J.Phlip, and many others. Their storied history in San Francisco includes barbecues in Golden Gate Park and quarterly parties featuring several of the label's artists.
